We camped three nights at the relatively low and warm Ohanapecosh campground, just inside the park. It was Memorial Day weekend, and we were grateful just to have a legal place to park. We did some day hikes, twice to Silver Falls and then also the much shorter Ancient Trees trail. These in addition to driving up to Paradise to see the mountain.

Duly noting the warnings; also "drop, cover, hold on" from New Zealand |

Another day, another hike, out to see the old trees |

Of course I felt it my patriotic duty to have a Rainier beer

Lest anyone be concerned, the forest products industry is doing just fine these days... |

I just discovered your blog today, only to learn that you were on Rainier just nine days ago. I live about 32 miles from the summit, as the crow flies, and I would have loved to have met you. Ah well...perhaps another time. :-)
You visited at an interesting time. Paradise lost ~95 inches of snow in the two weeks before you visited. I've lived here for almost 7 years now, and I've never seen the mountain as devoid of snow as it is now. Our heat wave (which you probably experienced, alas) was historic, and there are fires here now, which are clouding our lovely skies. You threaded that needle handily.
Happy trails!
