Vincennes Chateau and Chapelle, 2026

It seems like only yesterday. Well, I remember posting about it. I think. We saw the chateau and chappelle of Vincennes in 2014. Here, and here. Passing by them en eroute to the Parc Floral, we figured 12 years was enough to refresh our memories of what is actually an important place, both historically and touristically. Also to confirm, once more, that I always take the same pix, from the same angles, etc., etc. Also since our Monuments Passion memberships were running out imminently, and this was the last place of interest in Paris we hadn't seen recently.
Imposing entrance to the whole complex

The Keep...tallest in Europe

The Chapelle, we'll get to later

Medieval fortress within the outer curtain

One of the deeper, wider 13th century moats we've seen

Bridge from the entry tower to the Keep

Non-funny faces on the Keep

Atop the bell tower, overlooking the ramparts

The Tour Duo in the rainy distance

Walking the ramparts

View of the chapelle

Inside the Keep; a royal refuge for centuries, a prison in the 18th and
19th centuries

Some of the prisoners were artistic

Some not so much

Stairs not taken

In the Marquis de Sade's cell, his words projected on the wall

Letter to his femme; probably complaining about the prison food

Now in the chapelle, looking at helpful models of the whole complex...
huge curtain, many towers, the Keep and chapelle within...

Practice for a school performance there

16th century windows

Tomb of Louis Antoine, Duke of Enghien, last of the Conde's;
among the last of the House of Bourbon, and an apparent heir
to the throne after the execution of Louis XVI; Enghien was executed
by order of Napoleon at Vincennes; tomb erected in his honor by
Louis XVIII in 1815; not sure what the Statue of Liberty was doing
there...nyuk, nyuk, nyuk...

Rhodo Riot At Parc Floral

Peacocks, bonsai, and other matters aside, the main reason to visit the Parc Floral is the fleurs, and we found its population of rhododendrons going strong...which is good, since we may be missing the height of the rhodo season in southern England...stay tuned...we Chunnel in less than a week.

Starting with the azaleas (a kind of rhodo...)

New to us

Guard squirrel

Stupid Peacock Tricks At The Parc Floral

So there we were, minding our own business, admiring the Parc Floral's large bonsai collection, when up struts a peacock, who then begins to behave strangely, but beautifully...

Parc Floral is an especially impressive place if you get there at the right
moment in the spring

And much more than just fleurs...

You could hear the screams of delight and laughter walking by

Or enjoy the several greenhouses

We never miss the bonsai collection, the territory of this fellow

The peacock apparently sees something interesting

Turns, and

Begins rattling his train

And turns again

Show's over...he has determined I am not a pea hen

Back to business as usual...this is a bonsai'd rhododendron, dated 1900,
the year of the great Exposition...

All this reminded us of a similar experience some years ago in southern Africa, involving a zebra who apparently mistook our RV for something else...
