So the museum is closed on Tuesdays, we astutely noticed upon arriving, and so, with help from our favorite chatbot assistants, we fashioned a half-day Chicago art/architectural walking tour, scenes from which appear below and in the next post.
| We started at snow-covered Millennium Park |
| Millennium Park |
| The Bean, a Chicago landmark |
| We might be reflected in the bottom distance |
| At the skating rink, note kiddie ice skating apparatus |
| Among the many nearby 'scrapers |
| The Frank Gehry bandshell |
| Us, reflected in the Bean |
| More nearby 'scrapers |
Now we have wandered into Macy's/Marshall Fields; looking for the lingerie area made famous by Clark Griswold ("a bit nipply"); but, easily distracted, we are admiring the leisure suits now showing here in the States... |
| And other men's fashions...OK to mix plaids now... |
| The aforeseen skylight |
The real reason for returning to Macy's was to see the Tiffany Dome, on the 5th floor; or 7th? |
We've seen more Tiffany things than the average bear, but somehow had missed the glass mosaics...this among the largest, and its year+ installation overseen by the master Himself |
| Impressive |
By the time we got to the lingerie department we had ascertained that the scene in question was filmed in LA (of course), made to look like Chicago... |
| We had fun nonetheless |
| Macaroon Xmas tree... |
| In the old Marshall Fields Walnut Room |
| Famous old clock |
