A Day In Venice, 1

Penelope would shortly spend the better part of a week in Venice with her parents, and we had been there several times, but we still wanted to show her the basics and see just a day of it ourselves. So we took the bus from Camping Venezia to the Venice terminal, and then the water bus to San Marcos. All this on April 18th.
But first, some playground time with newfound friends; from France!

On the water bus

First experience of the watery city

Grand Canal

Side street; actually she knew all about this stuff...

Arrival at San Marcos; Doge's Palace

Walking with Grandma

Many landmarks

Planks and platforms for high tides in the piazza

A gondola navigates around a boat involved in excavating the building to the left

Canaletto lived here; he actually did more Venice landscapes (waterscapes?) than
Rembrandt did self-portraits

Presumably before he made the big time

Now follow a bunch of Venetian street scenes

Grandma navigating us through the Venetian maze

Curvature of alleys; time to note that Venice, over the years, has done a great job
reducing the number of pigeons
